Bien plus qu’un auteur illustrateur graphiste talentueux, Antonio Lapone est le digne descendant des tenants de la Nouvelle Ligne Claire inventée dans les années 80.
Pour l’album La femme au portrait (Ed. Dargaud), il opère sur un scénario de Nicolas Tellop, spécialiste de la bande dessinée et du cinéma, mais aussi auteur d’un texte-entretien avec Laurent Durieux pour le magistral L’Art de l’affiche.
Le récit du duo Lapone-Tellop prend place dans le Hollywood de la fin des années 1940.
Un gardien de nuit est assassiné lors du tournage de La femme au portrait, le film du réalisateur allemand Ernst Spieler. Plus étrange, une toile, pièce centrale du long métrage, a disparu. Indice après indice, Miss X, enquêtrice perspicace et caustique, traque le tueur féru de peinture et de 7e Art. Porté par un dessin alliant classe, efficacité et clarté, La Femme au portrait est un redoutable polar à clés et fausses pistes. Un hommage à l’âge d’or du cinéma américain que Fritz Lang, le réalisateur du mythique La femme au portrait – même si les récits du film et la BD n’ont rien en commun – aurait apprécié !

De Dame op het Doek
Meer nog dan een talentrijk illustrator-graficus-auteur is Antonio Lapone een nakomeling van de Nieuwe Klare Lijn die in het begin van de jaren 80 werd uitgevonden.
Voor het album De Dame op het Doek werkt hij op een scenario van Nicolas Tellop, strip- en filmspecialist maar ook de auteur van een tekst-interview met Laurent Durieux voor het magistrale L’Art de l’affiche.
Het verhaal van het duo Lapone-Tellop speelt zich af in het Hollywood van eind jaren 1940. Een nachtwacht wordt vermoord tijdens het filmen van De Dame op het Doek, de film van de Duitse regisseur Ernst Spieler. Vreemder nog, een doek, het centrale stuk in de film, is verdwenen. Miss X, een hardnekkige en gedreven onderzoekster, gaat op zoek naar de moordenaar en dief van schilderkunst en 7de kunst. Met een tekenstijl die klasse aan efficiëntie en duidelijkheid verbindt, is De Dame op het Doek een vernuftige polar met aanwijzingen en valse pistes. Een eerbetoon aan de gouden tijd van de Amerikaanse film die Fritz Lang, de regisseur van het mythische De Dame op het Doek, zou gewaardeerd hebben ook al hebben de verhalen van de film en de strip niets met mekaar te maken!
Naast de mooiste platen uit De Dame op het Doek stelt Galerij Champaka een selectie voor van betoverende illustraties met de sublieme Miss X als onderwerp!
La Femme au portrait
As well as being a talented author, illustrator, and graphic artist, Antonio Lapone is the worthy successor to the proponents of the « New Clear Line » style that emerged in the 1980s.
For the graphic novel La Femme au portrait (published by Dargaud), he works from a script by Nicolas Tellop—a specialist in comics and cinema who also authored an interview piece with Laurent Durieux for the magnificent L’Art de l’affiche.
The story by the Lapone-Tellop duo is set in late-1940s Hollywood.
A night watchman is murdered during the filming of La Femme au portrait (The Woman in the Portrait), a movie by German director Ernst Spieler. Even more bizarrely, a painting—a central prop in the film—has vanished. Clue by clue, Miss X—a sharp-witted and caustic investigator—tracks down a killer with a passion for painting and cinema.
