Exposition B\u00e9cassine <\/em>& Le Club des Cinq
\n<\/em><\/strong>Du 5 au 28 septembre 2019<\/h2>\n

B\u00e9ja nous dit \u00e0 propos de B\u00e9cassine<\/em>\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Reprendre le dessin de B\u00e9cassine, c\u2019\u00e9tait revenir aux pr\u00e9mices de la BD, qui est un art tr\u00e8s jeune. \u00c0 l\u2019\u00e9poque, Joseph Pinchon, le cr\u00e9ateur de l\u2019h\u00e9ro\u00efne bretonne, pr\u00e9figurait ce qui allait devenir la Ligne claire, une forme graphique tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sente dans la tradition franco-belge. <\/em><\/li>\n
  • L\u2019objectif \u00e9tait effectivement de faire un petit retour en arri\u00e8re, mais je voulais l\u2019ancrer dans la lecture que l\u2019on a aujourd\u2019hui de la BD. La Ligne claire, les phylact\u00e8res, enlever ces textes tr\u00e8s lourds en dessous. <\/em><\/li>\n
  • Au niveau du dessin, je me suis arrang\u00e9 pour garder la Ligne claire, tout en sortant des crit\u00e8res dans lesquels B\u00e9cassine \u00e9tait enferm\u00e9e, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire ceux d\u2019une petite gourde, lourdaude et rapidement d\u00e9pass\u00e9e par ses \u00e9motions et sa volont\u00e9 de bien faire. Pour apporter de la l\u00e9g\u00e8ret\u00e9 \u00e0 ses traits de caract\u00e8re, il fallait que je la rendre graphiquement plus souple et harmonieuse.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \u2026 et du Club des Cinq<\/em> :<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • Quand Nata\u00ebl et moi avons attaqu\u00e9 notre premier \u00ab Club des Cinq \u00bb, il s\u2019est d\u00e9gag\u00e9 un sentiment de plaisir. On avait l\u2019impression de renouer avec notre \u00e2me de gamin et ce sentiment de premi\u00e8re lecture que j\u2019ai eu adolescent avec \u00ab Tintin \u00bb. <\/em><\/li>\n
    • Ce projet m\u2019a mis face \u00e0 des d\u00e9fis, comme \u00e9viter d\u2019alourdir les planches de d\u00e9tails, pour rendre les d\u00e9cors, les personnages, leurs mouvements et l\u2019histoire aussi lisibles que les romans. C\u2019\u00e9tait vraiment un plaisir \u00e0 tous les niveaux !<\/em><\/li>\n
    • Nous nous sommes replong\u00e9s, l’un et l’autre, dans notre \u00e2me d’enfant pour retrouver les sensations de cette p\u00e9riode. Nata\u00ebl a relu l’\u0153uvre de Blyton, pour s’impr\u00e9gner de son \u00e9criture, mais aussi Stevenson et Herg\u00e9.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Et le mot de la fin :<\/strong><\/p>\n

      Lorsque je m\u2019y suis lanc\u00e9, la bande dessin\u00e9e \u00e9tait d\u2019abord un art qui devait tendre vers quelque chose de litt\u00e9raire. Avec le temps j\u2019ai l\u2019impression qu\u2019elle est aussi un pr\u00e9texte pour revenir sur des espaces d\u00e9j\u00e0 explor\u00e9s : les premi\u00e8res \u00e9motions, les premi\u00e8res amours, les premi\u00e8res exp\u00e9riences… Bref, la BD est ma nouvelle eau de jouvence !<\/em><\/p>\n

      Beja on B\u00e9cassine<\/em>\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

      • To take over the drawing of \u201cB\u00e9cassine\u201d was like returning to the beginnings of comics, which is quite a young art. At the time, Joseph Pinchon, the creator of the Breton heroine, anticipated what would become the Clear Line, a graphic approach widely found in the Franco-Belgian tradition.<\/em><\/li>\n
      • In fact, the goal was to go back in time a bit, but I wanted to anchor it in the reading that we have today in comics. The Clear Line, the speech balloons, and remove these very dense texts underneath.<\/em><\/li>\n
      • In terms of drawing, I managed to keep the Clear Line, while retaining the properties which define B\u00e9cassine, including those of a heavy-set dimwit who finds herself quickly overcome by her emotions and by her intentions to do good. To bring some lightness to her character traits, I had to make her graphically more flexible and harmonious.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        \u2026 and Beja on The Famous Five<\/em>:<\/strong><\/p>\n

        • When Nata\u00ebl and I took on our first \u00ab\u00a0Famous Five\u00a0\u00bb, there was a sense of pleasure. It felt like we were getting back to our boyish spirit and that feeling that I had as a teenager of first reading \u00ab\u00a0Tintin\u00a0\u00bb.<\/em><\/li>\n
        • This project confronted me face-to-face with challenges, such as avoiding overdoing the details, making the sets, characters, their movements and story as legible as the novels. It was really a pleasure at all levels!<\/em><\/li>\n
        • We plunged back, both of us, into our child’s soul to tap into our feelings for this period. Nata\u00ebl re-read Blyton’s work to soak up her writing, as well as that of Stevenson and Herg\u00e9.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

          The final word:<\/strong><\/p>\n

          When I started, comics was first and foremost an art that tended to aspire towards something literary. Over time I feel that it is also an excuse to go back to areas we have familiarity with the first emotions, the first loves, the first experiences … In short, comics is my new fountain of youth!<\/em><\/p>\n

          B\u00e9ja over B\u00e9cassine\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

            \n
          • Het tekenwerk van B\u00e9cassine overnemen, betekent een terugkeer naar het prille begin van het stripverhaal, dat een erg jonge kunstvorm is. Joseph Pinchon, de schepper van de Bretonse heldin, was de voorloper van wat de Klare Lijn zou worden, een grafische vorm die sterk aanwezig is in de Frans-Belgische traditie.<\/em><\/li>\n
          • Het doel was inderdaad even terug te gaan, maar ik wilde het wel verankeren in het soort lectuur dat we nu in strips hebben. De Klare Lijn, de ballonnetjes, die zware teksten onder de tekeningen wegnemen.<\/em><\/li>\n
          • Wat het tekenwerk betreft, zorgde ik ervoor de Klare Lijn te behouden, maar buiten de criteria te gaan waarin B\u00e9cassine vast zat. Met andere woorden buiten die van het kleine, peervormige meisje dat snel overrompeld wordt door haar emoties en haar wil om goed te doen. Om haar karaktertrekken wat luchtiger te maken, moest ik ze grafisch soepeler en harmonieuzer maken.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

            \u2026 en over <\/strong>De Club van Vijf:<\/strong><\/p>\n

            • Toen Nata\u00ebl en ik onze eerste Club van Vijf begonnen, was er dat gevoel van pret. We hadden de indruk terug aan te knopen bij onze jongenstijd en het gevoel dat ik als tiener had toen ik voor het eerst Kuifje las.<\/em><\/li>\n
            • Dit project stelde me voor heel wat uitdagingen, zoals het vermijden om de platen te overladen met details, om de decors, de figuren, hun bewegingen en het verhaal net zo leesbaar te maken als de romans. Het was op elk niveau een genoegen!<\/em><\/li>\n
            • We hebben ons allebei teruggestort in onze kindertijd om de gevoelens uit die periode terug te vinden. Nata\u00ebl herlas het werk van Blyton om zich onder te dompelen in zijn geschriften, maar ook Stevenson en Herg\u00e9.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

              Toen ik ermee begon, was het stripverhaal iets dat op de eerste plaats naar een soort literaire status moest streven. Mettertijd kreeg ik de indruk dat het ook een voorwendsel is om terug te grijpen naar al eerder verkende terreinen: de eerste emoties, de eerste liefdes, de eerste ervaringen\u2026 Kortom, het stripverhaal is mijn nieuwe levenselixir!<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
